Light at Two Lights by Kevin Beers 24×36″ Oil

Kevin Beers, well known for his Maine scenes, especially Monhegan Island, where he has painted for so many years. Many of his paintings have a Hopper type feeling to them, especially the featured painting above.

If you’re in the Boothbay Harbor (Maine) area, be sure to check out Kevin’s show “Points of Light” at Gleason Fine Art – It’s open now and runs through Tuesday, July 31, 2018!

🎨First Friday Gallery Reception TONIGHT, July 6th, from 5-7PM!

Here’s a blip that describes this painting, from Kevin’s FB page:

I have always loved Hopper’s paintings at Two Lights. It is so iconic. It was one of the first things I sought out when I first came to Maine. I love the grandeur, the solitude and the quiet dignity of those paintings oh his. I have always wanted to get back there and paint Two Lights. A couple of months ago I went down for another look. From down by the lobster shack that view of the light that you once saw sitting alone high up on a barren hill is almost swallowed up in trees and bushes. But then there is the view that he did from the other side that I also love. In searching I walked up the hill past the Coast Guard station and I saw that there was another road in the distance. I drove around and found the road and I found the other view that Hopper painted from. Well almost. To get to the exact spot I would have had to trespass on someone’s yards and all the signs made clear that that was a no no. So I did this angle. It felt so good to be there. So close and yet…

Read a bit about Kevin, from the Gleason Fine Art website:

In the Fall of 2014, Kevin Beers did something he had long dreamed of doing—he packed up his Park Slope, Brooklyn, apartment and moved to Maine to become a full-time resident. Beers and his wife Amy rented the Rockland home of a Monhegan friend and spent the winter of 2014-2015 hunting for their dream house. They found it on a Thomaston side street—an antique white farmhouse with a barn big enough for two studios.

For his 2015 summer show, Beers has given the gallery not only his typical Monhegan Island  panoramas and landscapes but also a half dozen sparkling winter paintings done on site in Rockland as well as several dazzling sunset views of Pemaquid. For Beers’ many fans of his truck and car paintings, this year’s show contains a special treat—“Stars and Stripes,” a majestic rendition of a familiar Rte. 90 sight, an old truck painted with red, white, and blue stars and stripes.

In mid-July, Beers heads out to his beloved Monhegan Island once again, but come fall, instead of facing the 7-hour drive back to Brooklyn, he will step off the ferry, drive less than half an hour, and be home—Maine at last!

Catch you back here tomorrow!
