Lea Peterson, an artist from Georgetown, Maine – Lea has an unbelievable gift for being able to depict the area where she lives so well that you not only see the painting, but HEAR the sound of the waves and even SMELL the salt water. No kidding. Absolutely incredible, but take a look for yourself! Of course Lea paints more than water views, every subject captured beautifully!
Lea has an upcoming exhibit, “Waterworks” at Elizabeth Moss Galleries, opening June 19th (no reception) – check out Elizabeth Moss Galleries website for more info! “Billow” is one example of many stunning paintings – I absolutely love the greens in this – look closely, there are so many colors, it’s stunning!

BIO
❝I am a full-time artist living and painting in Georgetown, Maine. My oil paintings are primarily seascapes and landscapes that convey the many moods of New England–its rocky shores, mountains, marshes, flora, wildlife and people.
My art career started early at the age of seven when I began weekly private lessons in charcoal drawing and oil painting. I continued studying with a number of instructors and was formally trained in Studio Art at the University of Maryland, where I focused on oil painting and sculpture. While pursuing a career in Communication in Boston, I continued to study art at the Harvard Extension School.
In 2007, I committed to a career as an artist and moved to Maine. I love the drama of the coast and find inspiration whenever I look out at the ocean. Its rhythms and energy say much to me about life, and so the sea has become a central theme in my work.
Since then, I have been painting full-time, either plein air or in my studio daily. In 2008, I partnered with four other artists to found the Old Post Office Gallery in Georgetown to support and promote the work of local artists. With another 8 artists, I did the same in Bath in 2012, founding an arts center called the Centre Street Arts Gallery.
My paintings are held in many private collections in the U.S. and abroad. People who have purchased my work remark on its color, energy and vitality. Said one fan recently, “When I look at your work, I can actually smell the salt water.”
I am a Juried Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America and the Pastel Society of America. My work has appeared in many juried exhibitions and I regularly participate in local and national shows. My work is represented primarily by the Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Falmouth, Maine, and also shows at the Centre St. Arts Gallery in Bath, Maine.❞
