Autumn Bouquet by Pamela Newell 18×14″ Oil

Pamela Newell. Wonderful paintings of flowers and landscapes – beautiful work, bright and happy color palette, very nice!

I love the color combination. It’s truly like you went out and picked fresh flowers to put in a vase. Not trying to be matchy-matchy, just so pretty!

Pamela’s work is wonderful, and I love how she talks about artists that have inspired her through the years. I’m sure Pamela’s name is on an artist’s list where they also gained inspiration!

Biography

Pamela C. Newell grew up in a suburb of Chicago and then lived in New England where she developed her love of art, earning her BFA at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. She now lives in Fishers, Indiana.  She is inspired by history’s masters and studies with notable living artists, including C.w. Mundy, Laura Robb, Sherrie McGraw, Jeff Legg, Quang Ho, Dennis Perrin and Daniel Keys.

Her still life and landscape paintings are created in oil or soft pastel, and reflect her love of nature – especially flowers and her experience as a Master Gardner. She uses rich color to describe light and mood. Her work is nationally recognized in juried competitions including the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society and Chicago Pastel Painters, and regionally; the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage Arts, the Richmond Art Museum, and Indiana Artists Club, Inc.  “Painting Indiana III”, a coffee table book by Indiana Plein Air Painters Association with Indiana Landmarks includes her work. Her paintings have earned the Indiana Artisan designation. In 2011, her pastel painting “In the Heartland” was presented to Lt. Governor Becky Skillman on behalf of Indiana Artisan and displayed in her statehouse office.  Pam was featured in the December 2017 issue of “Southwest Art” magazine under, “Artists to Watch, The Editor’s Choice for Up-And-Coming Talent.”

Recent adventures include plein air painting in beautiful locations.  She has painted in Evergreen, Colorado and Park City, Utah with the American Impressionist Society; the wine country of Missouri for the Augusta Plein Air Festival; locations in Maryland including Easton and White Hall; Chincoteague Island,Virginia; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Sedona and the Grand Canyon, Arizona; Paris and Limoux, France; and “Plein Air Magazine’s” Fall Color Week in Acadia National Park, Maine and Banff, Canada. Inspiration is also found regionally and she paints often with Indiana Plein Air Painters.

Pam has been awarded Signature Membership in the American Impressionist Society and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society.

Teaching workshops since 2006, she is a sought-after instructor throughout the region, with high regard from her student artists.

Professional affiliations include: the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, Indiana Artists Club, Inc. and many regional art organizations.  Her work is found in many private and corporate collections.

Artist’s Statement

I love to paint from life. There is a fresh richness in a subject that can only be captured by painting from direct experience. It’s like experiencing a live symphony versus a recording.  I respond spontaneously to my subject when I am immersed in it outdoors.   Plein air painting has become a passion.  But often I can be found in the studio, painting a bouquet of fresh fragrant flowers, or creating larger landscape work based on memory and plein air studies. My challenge is to suffuse my paintings with light and emotion.

When painting, I describe only the essence of a subject leaving out unnecessary details; painting the effect of light, not objects.  I want my work to evoke a feeling and sense of place; allowing the viewer to connect with their own experience and complete the story. My paintings reflect the mark of my hand – showing brushstrokes or pastel marks. My goal is to uplift the spirit and reflect the beauty I find all around.
