I love the movement (the water from the hose is amazing!), the bits of color, the gorgeous water and the stunning, but subtle, background.

In April 2017, Al Kline began his journey in watercolor painting. Al was born to Dutch parents in the Netherlands.
Al is a self-taught artist. As a child, I remember painting and drawing at the age of 5 and continued to exhibit artistic prowess throughout my childhood.
In elementary school, I painted a large (Chalk board sized) mural of a Christmas winter scene and I remember classes coming by to see the mural that Christmas season. My teachers were so supportive in allowing me to be creative in those early years. I do remember that distinctly. My first recollection of using watercolor was in the 3rd grade where I painted an elaborate street scene of homes just off our soccer field.
I took art through elementary and high school and even won some contests. By college, I was studying medicine and got involved in sport. My art supplies were left in some unforgotten place.
The creative passion never really dies in the artist. I channeled much of my artistic gifts into work, surgery and just about every aspect of my life.
Now 40 years later, I’ve rediscovered my lost passion of painting. I chose watercolor as my medium of expression just because it is a challenge. I’m all about challenges.
A few years ago, I started an online magazine featuring many artists that kept me in touch with some of the greatest artists of the world. And then, one day in April 2017, I bought some paints, paper and some cheap brushes and painted an apple.
I posted it to facebook . . . and Gunnar Tryggmo liked it! And so I was off . . .
I’m a surgeon by trade and born in the Netherlands. I now live in Texas, USA. I live on the coast and want to share with you my part of the world, in watercolor! I come from a family of artists and musicians. I have written poetry, composed music.
In my travels, I have interviewed some famous artists over the years including some famous, contemporary watercolor artists such as Gunnar Tryggmo. I have even cycled with the famous Dutch oil painter, Ewoud de Groot! My daughter is a very good artist and has given me inspiration.
I now follow and gain inspiration from a number of master watercolor artists from around the world. I’ve also been fortunate enough to study under them.
I hope you will follow me on this exciting journey! I would be humbled if my work were to inspire another generation of artists in the exciting medium of watercolor.
