Kathie Odom. You may have seen her featured on this blog several years ago… Kathie is a fabulous plein air painter (painting outside). She is able to capture bits and pieces of a scene with such feeling. I love this painting, everything about it is fabulous. The building, window, plants, lights, you name it!

Read a bit about Kathie as well as a bit about the featured painting – I love when a story goes along with a painting!:
I consider myself to be a storyteller, one who uses brushes and oil paints. I begin by visually locating stories that grab my attention. As I set up my easel, I allow the scene to tell me how to paint it, which often involves the people nearby who become curious with my presence. This scenario took place earlier this month (May, 2018) when I was in Wayne, Pennsylvania for a plein air festival. I visited an extraordinary nursery and discovered its long past of hard working people. This nursery also offered an edgy restaurant and a grounds used for wedding venues almost every weekend. One of the original buildings was a cedar-shaked hut called the Mushroom House where the bride would prepare for her special day. The weathered windows and moss-covered roof added to the unveiling story, and I just HAD to paint it… Bloom Where You’re Planted, 16×20, Oil on Linen.
