Alberto Ortega – an artist originally from Spain now living in North Carolina. The way he captures every day living is so unique. Alberto’s paintings don’t need people in them, I can totally envision the people that live in this house just by the way he set the scene – I can think of so many stories just from this one image which is what makes it so unique.
It’s pretty incredible to me how Alberto accomplishes this… Just look at that driveway! Magnificent! The light on the grass WOW! The car looks like it literally just drove into the painting.
I find myself hoping that this older couple (hey, it’s my imagination!) stopped making dinner – I swear I can smell the bacon that was cooking… They left abrubtly, leaving lights on in the back of the house, where the kitchen is located – The TV was also left playing with the news telling them to evacuate before the fire came any closer.
Why didn’t they take both cars? See what I mean – a painting that can tell a story without even showing a person is pretty cool!

Statement.
My landscapes are places where people live and work, although the people themselves aren’t seen. The quality of light becomes the central subject: human presence is suggested by parked cars, the flicker of television sets, or the glow from a bedroom leaking out to the quiet outside world. As an immigrant to the United States, I am intrigued by American suburban life as depicted in film, literature, and visual art. Through the images I create of American homes, buildings, and man-made environments, I seek to portray society and some of its contradictions. These scenes represent hopes and dreams, the threat of their failure, and alienation. I hope that my paintings set a stage that allows a drama to play out within the viewer.
